We're eating breakfast at a professional meeting.
And he asked me what I do.
So I told him that I was a professional meeting facilitator.
And he asked, "What is the biggest mistake people make in meetings?"
So I said, "They call a meeting expecting that people from different parts of an organization will come together with a common understanding of a goal that no one thought of."
And he said, "Is that a problem?"
And before I could say, "yes" he turned away to talk with the person on his right.
End of conversation.
Hey! I wish it were otherwise.
Really.
I wish we could obtain results without knowing what they are.
I also wish we could wake up with a million dollars under our pillow. Or a basket full of gold eggs on our doorstep. Or a stocking filled with Apple stock options hanging from our mantle.
But in the meantime, if you work for a real business in the real world you'll have to set a real goal for your meetings.
Of course, setting a goal may seem like a daunting task.
So call me. I'll show you how to make it easy.
Then you'll have something to talk about the next time we meet.
Key Point: A meeting without a goal is a journey without a destination.
Much success,
