It's January 4 and suddenly life seems so empty.
There're no massive meals to prepare, no family parties to attend, no crowded stores to endure.
There's nothing.
So the big question is: What do you do after you sweep up the confetti?
Since many people are stumbling (more literally than figuratively) back to work after a long holiday, let's begin with three easy questions.
Your answers matter because they will define the year ahead.
1) What are you going to do?
This is your vision for the year. It represents a summary of the results that you want to have in the future. It's a list of your goals.
2) Why are you going to do it?
These are the benefits of achieving your goals. Most often this reflects your purpose in business or life. It's a list of your incentives for working toward your goals.
3) How are you going to do it?
These are your plans. These define the actions that you will take to accomplish your goals. Each step is realistic, measurable, and achievable. It's a list of activities that will occupy your time.
When I describe these three steps in a workshop there's always someone who raises a hand. "I don't have time for things like that."
If this is you, here is good news.
If you're too busy to answer these three questions, there are many other people who will answer them for you. The catch, of course, is you'll prefer your own answers.
Key Point: Leadership is determined by one's ability to know What, Why, and How.
Much success,
